Carmel Richards is an expert witness in complex disability medico-legal cases. She has over 30 years of experience with complex disabilities.
Carmel has further qualifications in Manual Handling Training (1993) and Occupational Health (University of East Anglia 1997). She has gained experience in all three areas of disability; physical, psychiatric, and learning disability, and possesses a wide background of client assessment and treatment gained in over 30 years of professional practice. For most of this period she has worked in the community and mostly with patients with complex needs.
During my career I have worked as a physiotherapist (up to Superintendent) for the National Health Service (1974-93) and as a Manual-Handling Advisor/Coordinator for Social Services (1993-97). I have been involved in the assessment, treatment, and counselling of patients and carers in hospital in the acute phase, for their return to home in the rehabilitative phase, at home in the adjustment phase, and at times in their return to work. I have acted as a consultant since 1994, preparing reports on a variety of issues e.g.:
- Manual handling
- Back injury
- Work related injuries
- Physiotherapy
- Needs following accidental injuries
- Complex disability following accidents including traumatic brain and spinal injuries.
She has recently prepared reports for the MDU (Medical Defence Union), Smith Llewellyn Partnership Solicitors, Narbarro LLP Solicitors, Spencer Solicitors, Carmarthenshire County Council and Welsh Health Legal Services. Call Us to arrange an assessment & report.
